Acolyte {April}
« on: July 30, 2010, 05:53:24 PM »
((Pretend this takes place a couple of weeks before camp?))

Nathaniel walked into Breadstix and scanned the place. It was early afternoon, Friday, and he was supposed to be having lunch with April Rhodes. The summer had just begun, and, while the original plan had been six weeks surfing in California, he'd ended up not going, for various reasons. Just when Nathaniel had almost resigned himself to spending it doing very little, he'd heard that there was going to be a camp, and had applied for a place as an instructor.

Which was the reason for lunch: an interview. To be honest, he had no idea how it was going to go. To the best of his knowledge he'd never actually met April, although he'd seen her around a couple of times. She seemed like a decent enough person, so Nathaniel hoped this would be fairly easy. He wasn't sure he could take daytime TV much longer, and it had only been a couple of days.

He scanned the room again, and,  spying someone he thought was April sitting a little way away, walked over.

"Hi, April?"

((Sounds perfect))

April was getting down to business. With the camp starting in a couple weeks, she was getting down to the wire with her staff for the camp; so far she was doubling as a cabin counselor which was going to be fun. April just had to remember to not bring any booze. She'd already had most of her interviews for the day and was feeling pretty good about the candidates she already had. There was just one position to fill and that would be the problem as all the people she interviewed today were for that one spot. Hopefully, someone would come in and Wow! April so that she didn't have to worry about trying to pick.

The waitress had already brought her another double latte to drink. Ever since April quit most of her drinking, she'd been a cafeinne addict! The little place she chose, however, had some really cute java mugs which made her addiction worse. As long as she'd been sitting here all day, she figured that her last interview would be the best as they were going to have lunch and not just interview over a drink. He was a chaperone on the Chicago trip but April didn't know who he was as she had no pictures. As far as his resume went, everything looked pretty good. Then again so did all the other resumes...

It was almost time...

April shuffled her paperwork and organized it properly. Her latte had cooled down enough to take a sip. As she set her cup down, she heard the door open but figured it was another customer walking in for lunch. April crossed her lets and propped her head on her hand and gazed out the window just in time for a man's voice ask for her. Turning her head around, April was taken back. "Wow. I mean uh... Ha ha. Yes. Are you Nathaniel Pierce?" Amazing.

Nathaniel laughed, sliding into the seat across from April. "That's me," he said, smiling at April. "I think I saw you once, at the fundraising concert? It's nice to finally meet you. How are you?" He thought about going for the handshake, but decided against it, instead turning up the wattage of his smile to do well enough in greeting.

He picked up the menu and gave it a quick once-over, noting one or two things that interested him "Everything looks good." Nathaniel looked up, suddenly aware he was probably being a bit rude. "Sorry, I'm starving."

Now attentive, Nathaniel folded his hands together on the table. "Should we get down to business, then? You can ask me anything you'd like." He smiled again, figuring it couldn't hurt - it was a very nice smile, and it had been known to tip the balance in his favour before. "I'm really looking forward to this camp - assuming, of course, I get the job. I can do whatever it takes - I mean, whatever you need me to do. I don't mind. I think it's a great idea, this camp - I wish we'd had something like it when I was a kid."

Flattery, Nathaniel figured, really could get you anywhere you needed it too.

((BTW, I currently have no internet and am posting this off my phone's internet. Signal is fairly erratic, though, so if it's a while before I post again that's why. Back to normal on Wednesday. :) ))

This interview was going to be quite interesting, April thought. Nathaniel looked like the full package -- personality, charm, sense of humor. Was April looking for a staff member or a boyfriend? Time to get focused. As soon as her thoughts were directed back to the interview, Nathaniel said the spoke her mind. Giving a coy smile, April closed his folder and set it aside, picking up a menu herself. She just found her man, for the job that was. This interview was going to be very informal. April was sure he'd realize that.

"This place is great. I usually do a soup and salad here." April loved the little nook she found. They served gourmet coffee and had food that was just so good. It wasn't a burger joint by any means, but they had great sandwiches, soups, and salads of all sorts. Today she was going to shake things up a little bit and order a chicken salad sandwich with a side of fruit. Heaven forbid she didn't have her fruit every day. "I'm starving too. When you go for three hours sipping coffee down with the interviews, your kidneys want to murder you and your stomach feels like a red headed stepchild."

April gave a soft laugh and placed her order when the waitress came by. Once their orders were through, she looked back to Nathaniel. "So the position I'm looking to fill right now is acting instructor. What experiences do you have with acting?" She wasn't looking for someone with a Tony or an Academy Award, but April needed someone with some experience. While she had some hopefuls in the group of people that she'd interviewed so far, none of them had teaching experience. Nathaniel had it... and so much more.

((You take all the time you need, hun! I completely understand! :3))

((Back to normal now, thank goodness. :P))

So far, Nathaniel thought, everything was going swimmingly. April seemed quite taken with him, which was always a good thing, and it didn't hurt that Nathaniel had liked his first impression of her, too. He liked the little place they were in, as well. It being one of the few places in town that served anything he was actually comfortable eating, he'd become well acquainted with it since moving here.

"I know what you mean; I really like this place too," he agreed, nodding. "Soup and a sandwich sounds good to me too." As April kept talking, he laughed at her joke. "Red-headed stepchild, really? I never thought of it like that before, but it sort of works now that I do. At McKinley we basically live off coffee - I know exactly how you feel."

Eventually, of course, they came to the questions, which Nathaniel was perfectly prepared to answer. He knew that, compared to

"Well, I have some experience. Back in Chicago I went to CAA - that is, Chicago Academy for the Arts, where I majored in musical theatre. In college I was a part of the dramatic society - I played Hamlet once, you know. Very briefly, which is sort of an achievement, considering the play is three hours long."
